TRV not holding batteries

I am changing the batteries on the evhome TRVs, but the battery holders may have become worn or something, and the batteries are not powering the valve unless I press really hard on it by hand.
Does anyone knows a solution to that? I've tried to hold down the hinged connector with brown scotch tape, or to screw it down (though I'm not sure what screws would be best), but none of that holds very long
Alternatively, are there TRVs that would be compatible with evohome but work more efficiently? This system was installed when I moved in it's driving me round the bend!
