Hello there,
I have been working on making my home more energy-efficient and could really use some advice. My property is an older, mid-20th-century house with some original features that add character—but also seem to add to my energy bills.
Installed double glazed windows throughout the house. Switched to LED lighting in every room.
Added insulation in the loft, but it’s not the most modern type.
Despite these changes; my heating bills are still quite high, and the house feels draughty, especially around the doors and in the living room. I am considering upgrading my boiler to a more energy-efficient model and maybe adding smart thermostats. Does anyone have experience with that, and do you think it is worth the investment?
Additionally; I have read about wall insulation for older homes, but I am worried about dampness or potential damage to the structure. Has anyone here retrofitted wall insulation on an older property? If so; how did it work out for you, and would you recommend it?
Lastly; any recommendations on sealing gaps around doors and windows effectively would be great. I have tried basic weatherstripping; but I am not sure if there are better options.
Thanks in advance for your help and assistance.
