My first post as I plan my Evohome system...

I'm having building work done on my house with an extension, new kitchen, and wet low profile underfloor heating. I want to install Evohome to control my heating. Is simply asking the builders to do it ok?

I'm a bit worried they might not know how to do it. Then again, I don't want to mess up my new walls with putting up controls afterwards. Also, they would have to fit some sort of controller for the underfloor heating and it makes sense to put in th evohome one. But without the base unit, it won't work.

I've vaguely thought about getting an installer in first just to put in the boiler relays and then all the builders have to do is add the UFH controller, but some people say this is expensive.

I'm no DIYer. What do people think?

If you are not doing this yourself, get a Honeywell Connected Specialist experienced with evohome in to do the work. If you have not done this before, it is a very steep learning curve.

Thanks. I'm just worried about different trades tripping over each other. Is this not something that a heating engineer or an electrician can wire in? Does it really need a specialist installer?

If they have not done evohome before, unless they are heavily supported then they will highly likely get it wrong. You need someone who fits evohome daily to give you the best support.

An Evohome expert who's eight miles away said he doesn't come out as far as me.

I've been to the Honeywell Evohome website and got in touch with four ordinary installers who are a bit nearer, but it's been several days and no one has got back to me.

Forums also suggest that most of the installers on the Evohome site have only installed it once or twice before, so hardly experts.

Beginning to think that I will have to give up and not have this system. My friend has Hive. He just called British Gas and they simply came round and did it. I don't want Hive as it doesn't do zoning, but maybe I will have to re-think. Such a shame, as the Evohome system looked like it was exactly what I was looking for.
