I have bought the tester kit for Evohome to test the range and it is touch and go whether the system will work for me or not. My main issue is the boiler and hot water tank, which are located in a separate plant room in a detached garage.
The range between the house and the plant room isn't the best, when testing the best signal I got is on the external wall beside the plant room door, which is 4 feet away from the boiler and 8 feet away from the hot water tank. Any further into the room than that and the signal is intermittent. Im getting a signal ranging between 1 to 3 max by the door.
My house has UFH, and manifolds, controller etc are located downstairs in house, the wiring and pipes are run to the plant room from here. I have polypipe cable duct running from the plant room under the house and into a room close to where the UFH controller is located. Also, I have radiator heating upstairs and I want to control these by HR92s, concrete slab floor upstairs again impacts the signal for these so getting a spot for the control panel to work everything is difficult.
So my questions are:
-Is it possible to locate the boiler relay and the Hot Water Kit inside the house? There is wiring running from the current UFH controller to the boiler so I may be able to locate the relay inside the house and connect to the wiring that connects to the boilers thermostatic terminals? Boiler is a Firebird enviromax 35kW.
-Is it possible to do something similar with hot water kit? Could I extend the sensor cable from the thermostat through the ducting into the house and locate the transceiver and relay inside the house?
-Does having solar panels connected to my hot water tank cause any issues here for hot water kit?
Because of the distance between the house and the plant room, I need to try to think outside the box. The fact that the house and garage have steel frames probably doesn't help the range either
