Is Evohome suitable for me?

Hi. Im looking into getting the Evohome for my flat. It's an older building, so no zoned heating. Upstairs is the living room and its pretty big, so want to stop heating that when not using it. Question is this - can create 2 zones, ie 'living room' and 'rest of the flat' while only installing radiator controls in the living room? It's not that Im cheap and dont want to buy controllers for all 11 radiators (ok, it might be a bit of that), I just think the controls are really ugly and, after installing a few new 'contemporary' radiators, I dont want to spoil the look by sticking an ugly HR92 on there....

There is a combi supplying the hot water for the heating and a separate megaflo boiler for the hot water. Is the Evohome setup compatible with this? There is currently a programmer (drayton lifestyle) that determines when the hot water is on (obviously the megaflo is a storage tank, so this controls when water is actually being sent to fill it from the combi). I could keep this control if necessary, though would prefer be able to use the evohome controller for everything as the existing controller is somewhat inaccessible.

Many thanks for your assistance.

Hi Keiron,

The way the evohome system 'zones' the property is by controlling the flow of water into the radiators on the heating system. By the very nature of doing this you can quickly see why HR92's are required on all radiators if you want to zone your home (be it 2x zones or 11x zones you would need HR92's on all rads).

evohome is designed to be the control system and there shouldn't really be anything else in the way that could be a fail point - leaving programmers in 'constant' 24/7 will mean they will surely fail!

All the relevant setups and wiring diagrams are in the evohome Installation Guide (https://theevohomeshop.co.uk/content/12 ... home-links) from page 42 onwards.

I hope that helps.

Kind regards,

Richard

Hi,

Can you please advise me if the Honeywell Evohome Wi-Fi Connected Pack will work with my existing Central Heating system:

- Vaillant EcoTec Plus System with built in VCR400 controller
- Vaillant UniStor unvented cylinder
- VR65 Control Center
- 2 No 2-port Honeywell valves, one for CH and one for DHW arranged in S plan
- 19 Radiators throughout

Can you also advise how the new Evohome controls would affect the existing boiler controls?

Would I have to disable/disconnect the existing controls?

Is it possible to control the hot water from the existing boiler controller/time clock and use the new Evohome system only for the Central Heating?

I have in total 19 radiators in the house but I understand that I can have only 12 zones using ATP921R3100.
Do all of them require HR92's? some of the rads are very small, i.e. in the cloak WC, stairs, etc.
Can I leave them with current manual TRV's? I wouldn't mind if they were on all the time as I could turn them down to suit.
Also what shall I do with the converted loft which has 4 radiators in one open plan area? Can I have it as one zone which would make sense? Is it possible to have one wall mounted thermostat controlling 4 rads? Would I have to install a separate TRV or zone valve on the leg of 22mm pipework which serves the loft?
If all the above was feasible it would bring down the total number of Zones to 12.

Lots of questions but I would like to understand it before I buy it.

Please advise
