Calibrating my radiator temperature control valves

Is there a means of calibrating temperature control valves in the room so that they heat it to the correct temperature?
I understand that I could measure the temperature in the room and then simply put in an "offset" to the temperature. However, I thought I read somewhere I could use the Control Unit for this I.E. Place the Unit in the room for a period of time and it would then automatically set the correct calibration - not sure if I simply imagined this or not?
Thanks in advance for any help or advise anyone is able to provide.
