Multiple Zone Valves

Post by nigelevans »

I have a system with 6 CH zone valves and 1 HW valve.
Is it possible to control all these valves with BDR9 relays? All the valves are in the same cupboard so how far apart would the BDR9's need to be?
I would also like to split one of these areas controlled by 1 zone valve into 2 separate temperature controlled area's with radiator valves.

I'm likewise interested in this topic. I've only got two zone valves (upstairs radiators and downstairs UFH) and would like to control both from the wireless controller (currently I have evohome for all radiators upstairs but different, unintegrated thermostat downstairs). I wondered if I could do this with a Single Zone Thermostat (T87RF) and two BDR91's, but I wasn't sure how (or if) this would work. Thanks

evohome can control a maximum of 12 heating zones.

A zone valve zone can be controlled via the evohome Controller with a Y87RF2024 (T87RF Room Thermostat & BDR91 Relay Box). You can have 12 of these and a hot water zone. If you wanted one of these zone valve zones to be controlled by HR91 or HR92's you would need to removed the zone valve (or electrically disconnect it and leave in the manually open position) and fit HR91's or HR92's to all the radiators within that zone.

When you are multizoning with evohome, each of the zone valve switched live wires (orange and grey wires) need to be disconnected (and made safe) and a 'boiler relay' BDR91 or OpenTherm Bridge fitted (if your boiler is OpenTherm compatible).

I hope that helps?
