Unvented Cylinder Recommendations

Post by quinla01 »

Hi Everyone,

I currently have a vented cylinder that has a CS92A Wireless Tank Thermostat (external thermometer attached to outside of tank under insulation) to monitor water temperature. A BDR91 WIreless Relay sits about 1m away and is hard wired to the rest of the system.

I'm about to replace the vented for an unvented cylinder (lots of reasons why, irrelevant to post). How will this change my setup? I'm currently using the external thermostat but have the internal thermostat in a box somewhere to use if necessary. Are unvented cylinders designed to accept this type of thermostat? They're under a lot of pressure so obviously there's not going to be an opening where i can just drop the thermostat into water. Do any systems have a wiring board that allows me to connect directly into it and get a more accurate temperature without the wireless thermostat? Are some unvented cylinders better suited for EvoHome than others? Any cylinders to avoid? I really want to keep using my EvoHome system to control hot water.

Thanks in advance.

I have an answer to my own question but thought i'd post it here in case anyone else is interested. I called Telford, the manufacturer of a reputable unvented cylinder and asked them the question. All their tanks are built to order and they have a simple solution where they built the cylinder with an additional "stat pocket". So it's literally as simple as me just slotting in my EvoHome probe and away I go. Cost me an extra £70 on a 300L tank (~around £700 total).

Thanks for the feedback.

Personally I prefer Joule cylinders and these have additional stat pockets without additional cost (https://theintergasshop.co.uk/79-joule- ... -cylinders).
