Sensor error on HR92

Sensor error on HR92

I have an HR92 that is showing "E1 SENSOR" and doesn't operate normally.

Does any know what this message means, and does it mean a repair/replacement is needed - I'm guessing it thinks there is a fault with its temperature sensor?

It means the sensor isn't operating correctly and you need to replace... Normally happens when they get wet.

Thanks, that's a shame, and a waste of materials. Maybe I'll use it for experiments on seeing what can be done with the micro USB port on the side of the valve!

I don't think there's any way this one would have got wet, but it seems like a bit of a design weakness - given they are used by plumbers and attached to wet systems (possibly under a bleed valve!), you would think Honeywell would at least give the circuit board a conformal varnish coating to protect it against minor wetting or condesation.

I have managed to repair some evohome Radiator Controllers in the past and given these to employees, but E1 faults are pretty final. In the 1000's of devices we have sold, HR92 faults have been minor based on the fact I cannot control how they are handled on site or by the customer once they leave here. HR91's are obviously more robust than the HR92's, but I wouldn't recommend getting either purposely wet.

I have managed to repair some evohome Radiator Controllers in the past and given these to employees, but E1 faults are pretty final. In the 1000's of devices we have sold, HR92 faults have been minor based on the fact I cannot control how they are handled on site or by the customer once they leave here. HR91's are obviously more robust than the HR92's, but I wouldn't recommend getting either purposely wet.
Help appreciated trying to explain the following......
I have one HR92 with a faulty screen, the unit works perfectly apart from there being no display readout (it illuminates that's it). I also have another HR92 that displays Frost and the E1 sensor readout but does have a working display. So i set about taking the good display to replace the faulty one (thanks to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBGRc8XpOZI). After successfully transplanting the screen i was happy to see the display working with the correct room name. However, it then went on to display Frost, an S6.3 code and eventually E1 sensor - with an error message on the controller (and a -14.5 temp).
I'm at a loss as to why this would be the case so I put the old faulty screen back and the HR92 works with all values correct on the controller.

Why would changing the display generate an E1 sensor message in an otherwise working HR92?

The screen has the sensor in it. So if you had an E1 fault and a good screen, that screen is completely faulty and transplanting across will take the error with it.

Micro USB is used to connect a magnetic window opening sensor. 100% certainty that HR92 will respond to opening and closing the window. I have it installed at home. You can use any sensor, magnetic reed switch, it does not have to be Resideo.
