Integration: Smith's Plinth heaters
Integration: Smith's Plinth heaters
I’m planning to upgrade my heating system to evohome and have been working out which components I require to retrofit to the existing system. However, I’ve one room that is proving to be difficult - the kitchen. Here I have a Smith’s SS9 space saver plinth heater. It is effectively a enclosed radiator with a fan to effect convection. The thermostat is electronic - placed elsewhere in the room, and simply switches the fan on and off to blow cool air through the radiating assembly. It’s a very effective heater and a great solution for a small kitchen with no spare wall space. However, there is no provision for a TRV - the unit has no mechanical valve by design. I was wondering if I could perhaps add this heater to evohome using an T87RF room thermostat and a BDR91 relay to switch the fan control? If this is possible how would I go about adding this to the system? Are there any other alternatives?

I have done these with a T87RF2033 in the room and HR91 on an inline valve (V120-15S) behind the plinth heater in the past...
