Zone without an Actuator

I think I have managed to make do without an actuator/relay.

I have:
* clicked add zone,
* typed name
* chose Mixing Valve.
* clicked yes when prompted 'Use evotouch as the temperature sensor for Shower?'
* bound the T87RF when prompted, then
* when UI it passed to the next screen, I simply clicked in the middle of the screen and somehow skipped the relay setup.

This way low temperature on the new temperature sensor induces heat demand and running of the boiler.


Note if you bail out from the process without actually binding evotouch the zone will be created with no controls attached at all.
Other types of zones require you to bind the device or zone is not created.

If you 'fudge' any zone like this then you will probably get undesirable things happen (ghost demands). Sensor and actuator is how evohome was designed to operate.

Although, I didn't even needed T87RF. I have just created a zone called "Towel Rail", selected the type as "Zone Valve" and used "Eco touch as the temperature controller". Initially it was saying "not bonded", then I tried binding it and it just came back as successful immediately. It is now scheduled to run half an hour each night.

Using it now works well, although I am considering putting in place dual fuel radiator when we renovate a bathroom. Need to evaluate what is cheaper to heat the towel rail in the summer months i.e. 4 months, a) running it with dual radiator and electrical heating or b) using boiler to heat provide a heat. Anyone have some thoughts on that?

4 months that's circa 120 days of boiler heating for 30 minutes.
