Heating off not overriding minimum target temperature

Post by jgrasl »

Since 2024 April 19th my evohome setup works differently than before.
I have some zones set with their minimum temperature on the default 5 degrees value and some with changed minimum temperature, 15 and 21 degrees.
Before the 19th when I turned off heating all of my zones were set to 5 degrees but now Heating off is "respecting" the minimum values of the different zones. This way even with heating off one of my zone stays set to 21 and kicks in the boiler going below 21 even though evohome heating is off. This makes it impossible to turn off heating when zones have higher minimum value than 5.
So far the minimum temperature affected only the away mode which is the expected so even if I go away some rooms keep the set minimum temperature but when I turn the heating off I expect it to turn off, for example opening the window for a longer period and let the room go colder than it's minimum set temperature.

I've realized that on that exact day Resieo updated the documentation about the latest firmware available but I couldn't find any release notes with any changes.

Is it the new normal? Do someone else have the same issue?

I wasn't aware of the new firmware, but it does seem to have been recently updated by Resideo. What firmware are you running on the device now?

The application software version is 02.01.01.01.

I was able to verify with checking the response on the Total Connect Comfort page that the Minheat for the Zone is 21, the Heating is turned off which should set to 5, but the Zone Target temperature is set to 21. Resideo support confirmed that it should be set to 5 not to the Min heat value of the Zone but they're unable to tell why the zone is set to 21 instead of 5. I did a Factory reset, added the zone again, set the mintemp to 21 and it again sets it to 21 not 5 so it's not just a temporary issue for me.

Also I'm saving evohome data in HomeAssistant and it clearly shows that before April 19th the zone temperature was 5 when the heating was turned off and since that day the zone never goes below 21.

Obviously some changes have been made on the new firmware with unexpected consequences. Feeding back to tech support is your best option, although I would imagine any fixes will be in a future update.

Of course, my problem at the moment is that support says actually it's not wrong for anyone else but you and even if I provide the API responses from the system they develop I get the answer actually nothing is wrong so I'm trying to find other users who might see the same problem with their system to show Resideo that there is actually something wrong with the latest firmware.
I got them to verify that the target temp should be 5, I showed that it's not 5 but the min temperature, then they answer was:
"Currently we're monitoring these changes, but since customer received an official FW upgrade, that we have also tested with two other previous versions and had no change or issues, there's nothing that can be done at the moment."

So actually I'd be already quite happy if I could find someone with the same evohome version who used higher min temperature than the default in the past and could check if their zone is also now only switching to the mintemperature instead of 5 C.
