Did the Evohome install onto my aging condensing boiler last winter and very pleased with it. But going into this Autumn, said condensing boiler started to cough, splutter and fart rather than firing reliably. My plumber recommended the equivalent 30kW Worcester Bosch but, reading here, I decided to investigate the Intergas options and called Richard at the Evohome shop.
This chap knows his onions and talked me through what I'd need. Before just taking my plumbers word for it, he had made an estimate that the 30kW would be too big based on my house dimensions and pointed me in the direction of the Whole House Heat calcs I should do. Following that, my heating requirement was 18 kW so ordered the Intergas Combi Compact ECO RF 24 with fitting kit, offset flu, OpenTherm bridge and Normally Open Motorised Valve
The boiler was a straightforward install. My plumber was initially sceptical having never seen one before but commented on the ease of install and how simple it all seemed. My conventional S-Plan system was modified to what Richard calls the "X-Plan" Hot Water Priority System by replacing the Heating Valve with the Normally Open one, this then being wired to close when the Hot Water valve opened.
The BD91 on the Heating side was replaced with the OpenThem bridge at the boiler, the programmer was adjusted for the new configuration, the boiler parameters were setup with Richard's help. Et voila. A fully functioning system that seems to be working a treat.
In this day and age of companies paying lip-service to Customer Service, it's refereshing to find a company like The Evohome Shop. Knowledgeable, effifcient and patient with their customer who I would best describe as an Enthusiastic Amateur in all this. From the initial call to a couple of follow up emails, recognising exactly what I would need to order and a call to help setup my boiler parameters it was a pleasure. Thanks Richard and team
New Intergas Boiler with Evohome setup
Re: New Intergas Boiler with Evohome setup
Thanks very much for this post John and I'm glad your system is working well!
It pays to do your homework with heating systems, especially when using OpenTherm capable controls like evohome and Intergas boilers are just really a no-brainer when it comes to great OpenTherm and technically capable boilers (https://theintergasshop.co.uk/).
Over-sizing heating boilers just has a massive negative effect on heating bills and calculating the heating load of the property correctly with things like the Energy Savings Trust's Whole House Sizing Guide (http://www.domestic-gas.co.uk/documents/CE54.pdf) ensures the correct size boiler is obtained.
Please keep me posted on things as the winter progresses onward!
Thanks again,
Richard
