Confused by Lyric

Post by Jerseyman »

Before Christmas I spent some time researching wireless zoned heating systems and came to the conclusion that the Evohome was the way to go, particularly as the next step would be to incorporate the Evohome securiity (and integrate with my small zWave Home Automation system). However, whilst just checking out a few things prior to ordering I spotted the Lyric system. At the moment this is single zone only (at the moment I suspect) and not at all compatible with the EvoHome system. However it uses more sophisticated WiFi rather than RF and Honeywell now have two different Home Security ranges.
My potential investment in the EvoHome system was to be significant, not just money, but in all probability, time as well. But it now looks as if the RF based systems may be moving to end-of-line?

i would be grateful for peoples views.

Hi Jerseyman,

Well just like evohome, Lyric uses 868 MHz and Wi-Fi is only used for the App integration.

Honeywell have not announced anything of moving away from RF based systems... If anything (based on the recent issues Drayton are experiencing with using Wi-Fi for control of their TRV's) I would imagine Honeywell will be sticking with RF for proprietary heating system control?

evohome is a proven system, to move to a new and potentially problematic platform doesn't make any sense to me when they already have a robust system.

Just my 2p... ;)
