Follow up comment, I'm wondering if it is the frost protection on the boiler, as it only happens over winter and our boiler is in an outhouse.

We have HR92s. We use rechargeable batteries which I wouldn't expect to last as long, however at times I have to change them every 2-3 weeks. It's not the biggest issue in the world, but is an inconvenience.

I can't provide an answer, however we have a similar set up for hot water provision, and it's turning itself on whenever the temp falls to 16c. That happens irrespective of timed control and can be either when the heating is off or on.

Recently we've found that our boiler fires up to heat the water without it being set to. This can be either when the heating is on, or neither heating or water is set to time. This tends to happen when we run water from the tank when it's fallen to around 12c or lower. I was under the impression ...
