The controller is wall mounted, but it is mounted on a plastic back box, if it happens again I will removed the batteries and restart the valve controller, I don't think the valve base is faulty, and then delete and reinstall the zone.
One thing I have just found which may be the answer.

System Summary
I have an occasional issue, where the heating can be set to off, all the HR92's are showing a valve position of 00, but yet the heating still comes on and off, checking the system summary, one of the zones is showing a percentage of heat call.

Boiler on with all HR92 OFF
I have seen this on a few occasions, one of the zones will be showing 100% demand on the screen, but if you go to that zone the actual valve position (Parameter 10) is showing 0%, if the valve is re calibrated it sets the screen back to 0% and the boiler goes off, anyone else seen this?

Re: HR92 on return
Providing the valve body can be used in either direction (Which most can these days) then the HR92 will work perfectly, I have a few on the return flow, at the end of the day the HR92 is responding to the room temperature and just closes any valve it is attached to.

ATF600 Back Box
Does anyone know why the manual states the ATF600 must be installed in a 47mm plastic back box.
Plastic boxes are only available for dry liners, not brick walls
I see no reason why a metal earth box would not be fine, but stand to be corrected, anyone know why
